Why use this WebP to PNG converter

WebP saves bandwidth on websites, but it is a hassle once an image leaves the browser. This tool turns those files into PNG with nothing lost along the way.

No server ever sees your files

Product mockups, client artwork, and unreleased designs are processed by your own browser. The converter has no upload step, so there is nothing to delete afterwards and nothing for anyone else to access.

Built for big image sets

Scraped a product catalog or exported a site's media library? Add the entire set together. Several images are processed side by side, and the results come back as individual PNG files or a single archive.

Transparent pixels stay transparent

Logos, icons, and cut-out product shots keep their alpha channel, including soft semi-transparent edges. Because PNG is lossless, the result matches the decoded WebP pixel for pixel.

How to convert WebP to PNG

No plugin, no desktop app, and no sign-up. The whole job takes a few seconds.

  1. 1

    Drop in your .webp files

Pick WebP images from your downloads folder, drag a folder onto the page, or copy an image in your browser and press Ctrl+V here.

  2. 2

PNG files are created right away

Every image becomes a PNG as soon as it is added. If you need smaller files, set a maximum width or switch the output to JPG or WebP.

  3. 3

    Save the PNG images

Click any image to save it on its own, or take the whole set as one archive. Desktop browsers can also write all files directly into a folder you choose.

Why WebP files are hard to use, and how PNG fixes it

Google introduced WebP in 2010 to make web pages load faster. A single format covers lossy photos, lossless graphics, transparency, and even animation, usually at a quarter to a third less weight than an equivalent JPG or PNG. Most large sites now deliver WebP by default, so right-clicking an image and choosing Save image as often gives you a .webp file.

Outside the browser, support is patchy. Older Photoshop releases, many versions of Microsoft Office, and plenty of marketplaces and print shops still reject it. Changing the extension to .png does not help, because the bytes inside are still WebP. A real conversion re-encodes the picture as PNG, the lossless format that practically every editor, slide deck, and upload form has accepted for decades.

Common reasons to turn WebP into PNG

Most WebP files arrive by accident: you save an image from a site and only notice the format when something refuses to open it.

  • Edit downloaded artwork in Photoshop, GIMP, Affinity, or Figma without hunting for a WebP plugin.
  • Meet listing rules on marketplaces, print shops, and job portals that ask for PNG files.
  • Reuse transparent logos and stickers in slides, documents, and video edits without a white box around them.

Getting the most out of your PNG files

Stay with PNG for logos, screenshots, and anything with a see-through background. For ordinary photos, PNG can be very heavy, so switching the output to JPG often gives a far smaller file with no visible difference. Lowering the maximum width under More options also cuts size quickly. If a WebP was animated, the PNG holds only its opening frame, and the file is marked in the list so it is easy to spot.

WebP to PNG questions

Does it cost anything to convert WebP to PNG here?

No. The converter is completely free, adds no watermark, and asks for no account. Convert as many WebP images as your device can handle.

Do my WebP files get sent anywhere?

They do not. Decoding and PNG encoding happen in your own browser, so the files never travel over the internet. You can even disconnect from the network once the page has loaded.

What is the fastest way to convert WebP to PNG on a computer?

Open this page in any current desktop browser and drop the files onto it. It is quicker than opening each image in Paint or Preview and choosing Save as, especially when you have dozens of them.

Is there a limit on how many images I can convert together?

You can add a large batch at once, and the exact amount depends on your device's memory. When a batch finishes, take every PNG as one archive instead of saving files one by one.

Do I lose quality going from WebP to PNG?

Nothing is lost in the conversion itself, because PNG stores every pixel exactly. Keep in mind that a lossy WebP already discarded some detail when it was created, and no converter can bring that back.

Will the transparent background survive?

Yes. Fully and partly transparent areas carry over to the PNG unchanged. Only JPG output fills them with white, because JPG has no transparency.

What happens to an animated WebP?

PNG cannot store the animation here, so you get a still PNG of the first frame. Animated files are labeled after conversion so you can tell which ones were flattened.

Can I convert WebP to PNG on my phone?

Yes, in Safari on iPhone and iPad or Chrome on Android. Choose the WebP images from your files or gallery, then save the PNG results back to your photos or downloads.

Can it convert to JPG instead, or handle other formats?

Yes. Besides PNG you can output JPG or WebP, and the source menu also accepts HEIC, AVIF, JPG, GIF, and BMP. If you add an image that is already a PNG, it is passed through untouched.

Why did my image get so much bigger after converting?

WebP is built to be small, while PNG keeps every detail with lossless compression, so a PNG can easily be several times heavier. Reduce the width, or choose JPG for photos that do not need transparency.
